Rev. Dr. Ann Michele Rogers-Brigham

Pastor

3

Rev. Ann Michele is a native Mississippian with deep family roots in Covington County! As an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, she served churches in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Vermont and Northern California. She served a four year term as a missionary to Thailand in the early 80s and, most recently, worked as teacher at Christian University in Thailand with Global Ministries (UCC/Disciples).

Ann Michele graduated from Mississippi College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and completed her Doctor of Ministry at Andover Newton Theological School, Newton, MA. She completed 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education and is a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Her UCC ordained ministerial standing is currently in the Northern CA/NV Conference, UCC.

Ann Michele is the proud mom of William Paul Brigham and Ann Martha Brigham and grand mom to Sierra Brigham (Paul’s daughter). Sadly, her husband of 35 years, Bill Brigham, died in 2008.

Rev. Ann Michele is delighted to be invited to serve Safe Harbor Family Church as the designated Senior Pastor. She hopes you feel the love and welcome of Safe Harbor Family Church, UCC and you will treasure the invitation to share your spiritual journey with this family of God’s people.

Cindy Crocker

Associate Pastor

3

Cindy is a lifelong proud resident of Mississippi. In her teens, she felt a calling to serve the church but didn’t know what that calling would be. She went on to graduate from Mississippi College in Business Administration and then Information Systems. After years of looking for a church family, she heard about a new church meeting in the pastor’s home. Quickly she fell in love with Safe Harbor and God again put a calling on her heart. Cindy was ordained through Holy Trinity Church in Memphis.

Glenn Thomas

Associate Pastor

3

Glenn was born in a small, rural town in Illinois to Catholic parents. Following the divorce of his parents, he became a United Methodist. He has since connected with the United Church of Christ. He has lived in Mississippi for almost 20 years.

From early on in high school Glenn felt called by God into ministry, and he has been in some sort of ministry ever since. His undergraduate work was completed in 1984 earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He earned his Master’s in Christian Education in 1988 from Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Over the years, Glenn has served in many settings from small rural churches to large urban churches, from hospitals to senior citizen centers, from young churches to historic churches. His role has changed as well depending on the setting. Serving in Illinois, Tennessee, Florida, and currently in Mississippi, every setting has given him opportunities for learning and growth. He said that “we should all be about God’s work with compassion, education, and inclusion no matter what. We all have personal baggage and a skewed perception, but God still loves us.”

He has served as a Diaconal Minister and an Ordained Deacon in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church until June 2011. As a member and volunteer, Glenn joined Safe Harbor Family Church in 2005. He is currently an Associate Pastor at Safe Harbor and is continuing his training through Pathways as a part of the United Church of Christ. During the weekdays he is an administrative assistant in a research department at UMMC in Jackson.

He has three children (one is with God after losing her battle with cancer). There is nothing he is more proud of than his children. Becoming divorced after 25-years of marriage has caused him to enter a new chapter in his life – a new way to understand himself and those around him. He is grateful to be a part of a loving and caring church family where everyone can find a ‘safe harbor’!

Alan Black

Music Minister

3

Alan has been the worship leader at Safe Harbor Family Church for the past six years, and he looks forward to serving for many more. Being involved in the music ministry for the past forty years has proved to be a most satisfying journey for him. Although he has had the privilege of singing with and playing for some of the best voices in the music industry, he has found that leading people in worship is what nourishes his spirit and takes him into realms of the heavens that very few singers and musicians have experienced. He is excited about the things happening at Safe Harbor, and he watches with anticipation to see what is next. David said in Psalm 34:1-3, “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.” May this be the cry of our hearts.

Julia, the newest staff member, is in charge of several ministries, including Babiez, Kidz Harbor, Yacht Club, and Free Spirit (Safe Harbor's dance and drama team).

Shelli Poe

Campus Minister

3

Shelli grew up in Minnesota, and since then has been moving progressively into the southeast. She was ordained in 2007, and served as an associate minister in NJ and a campus minister in VA with the United Church of Christ before coming to us as a campus minister to Progressive Christians at Millsaps College. Shelli is also a professor of religious studies at Millsaps, specializing in Christian Studies. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Bethel University (St. Paul, MN), a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Shelli is committed to bringing the head and heart together so that persons can live an integrated life, uniting knowledge and love.
